Dr. Fafali R. Ziga-Abortta is a senior researcher at the Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy, University of Freiburg. He studies how institutions and actor networks govern flood and climate risk, with fieldwork in Ghana. He also writes and curates spoken-word and Afro-diasporic cultural programming in Freiburg.

Dr. Fafali R. Ziga-Abortta is a senior researcher at the Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy, University of Freiburg, where he studies how institutions and actor networks govern flood and climate risk. His doctoral work traced policy networks in Ghana's flood disaster risk management; he has since led different work packages in different projects, including one on European forest and bioeconomy governance and published across disaster risk reduction, political geography and water research. Alongside the research he writes, performs spoken word, and curates cultural programming, including the poetry event Flow with the Dreisam and Afrocompass, a community platform for Afro and Afro-diasporic creativity in Freiburg and beyond.

Dr. Fafali R. Ziga-Abortta is a senior researcher at the Chair of Forest and Environmental Policy, University of Freiburg. His work sits between environmental governance, political geography and climate policy, and asks a consistent question: who sets the rules, and whose knowledge counts when climate risk is governed. He completed his PhD in Human Geography at Freiburg with a dissertation on governance through institutions and policy networks in Ghana's flood risk management, graded magna cum laude. He was an interdisciplinary team member on the BMBF-funded PARADeS project and later led a work package on the EU project SMALL4Good, coordinating partners across five European institutions. His methods combine stakeholder and institutional surveys, social and policy network analysis, and qualitative and computational text analysis. He has published in the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction, Political Geography, the Journal of Flood Risk Management, Environmental Policy and Governance and WIREs Water, and reviews for academic journals. He teaches at master's level and designed an open-education module on collaboration in flood disaster risk management. Outside the university he writes and performs spoken word, publishes essays on Substack, and curates Afrocompass, a platform amplifying Afro and Afro-diasporic creativity, culture and stories in Freiburg and beyond.
